The Art of the Pizza Box

Ever wondered who owns the biggest pizza box collection in the world? World record breaking, in fact? Well wonder no more… New York’s Scott Wiener is bringing a selection of his 1000+ strong set to PLY at the end of the month!

It’s a packaging designer’s paradise.

Scott’s collection, sourced and sent from pizzerias across the world features landscapes, portraits and fake TV characters amongst many other graphic designs. It’s true to say that every box tells a story.

NYC pizzeria tour guide, Scott, will be flying over to Manchester to launch the exhibition with artist Steph Mantis – creator of the Forever Pizza project, for which she preserved real slices of pizza in resin. Meeting, naturally, through a love of pizza, they knew of each other’s work through the power of the internet and then a chance meeting at the opening of NYC’s Pizza Brain, meant the rest is history.

This will be the first time Scott and Steph have brought the collection to Manchester and we’re launching the show with a pizza box design contest on the night in collaboration with Absolut – we’ll be leaving out blank boxes and art supplies for guests to get creative and we’ll be giving out PLY and Absolut prizes for the best entries. The preview starts at 6pm on Thursday 29th October and there will be complimentary cocktails from Absolut, PLY’s official arts partner. We look forward to seeing you there!

The exhibition runs from 30th October – 20th December.
